Round 4: Sensational C's go top!

Henley 19.9 (123) defeated SHOC 5.6 (36)

Best: De Munk, Mahney, Rayner, Wilson, Matte

Goals: Rayner 7, Barnes, Pierson 3, Walshe, Mahney 2, Meiers, Eadon 1

The sensational C’s continued on their merry way towards a top 3 position this season with an 87 point mauling of SHOC. With several players coming back down from the B grade and missing the experience of ‘Hooker’ Loveder and ‘Lemaze’ Jeffries there was always the danger of the team not gelling and taking the game too lightly. This could not have been further from the truth as the Sharks raced away to a 4 goal first quarter lead which was extended to a ten goal lead by half time. ‘Rhino’ De Munk was feeding Raynes and Barnesy plenty of the footy early while Mahnes was also performing strongly around half forward, taking some great grabs and crumbing the taller forwards. The Sharks took the foot off the gas in the third, something that will certainly need to be addressed in future weeks, but finished well in the final quarter with the wind to record a comfortable 14 goal win. Matte and Willo rounded out the best players and with plenty of players becoming available over the next few weeks, all positions are up for grabs, demanding al players continue to perform.

Round 3: C GRADE vs ADELAIDE UNI

Henley 14.17 (101) def. Adelaide Uni 9.7 (61)

Best: Pitman, Jeffries, Matte, Mahney, DeMunk, Duessen

Goals: Barnes 5, Rugolo 3, Meiers 2, DeMunk, S Jones, King, Stone 1

Coming off a thumping win, Kingy’s Crew were keen to consolidate a top 3 position with another early season win against long-time rivals, the Uni Blacks. The forecast for rain was not of too great a worry for the Sharks, who were confident that their young brigade would have the legs to run out the game in heavy conditions.

Shark Bites!

Great to see a warm Henley welcome extended by “Bull” Cullen & Pasty to Dainty Derek.

Any truth to the rumour that they all caught up again socially at The Local Sponsor’s nightclub to reinforce their undying love for each other?

Great sportsmanship displayed by Ro Smith. Pity their sparky couldn’t do as good a job on their horn! Might be worth giving Stinger or Pierso’s number to them to get a professional!

Round 2: C-Grade Vs St. Pauls

Score: Henley 21.18 (144) def St Pauls 8.6 (54)
Best:
Day, Wilson, Ehrlich, Deussen, Matte, Williams
Goals: Ehrlich 9, Barnes 3, Meiers, Wilson 2, King, Sarai, Schwartz, Zammit

The long journey up Grand Junction Road was well worth the effort for Kingy’s Crew, coming away with a 90 point victory against an unorganised St Pauls outfit. After several big losses against the St Pauls in recent years, the Sharks ensured that the scoreboard did the talking, with a seven goal last quarter sealing the match.

Wingers Wrap: Round 1

Game 1 Season 08, finally. After what has seemed an eternity, the first games for points were played by all senior teams this weekend.

Never, in my history at the club, has the off season recruiting & building improvement areas been so busy! The time sacrifices by many has been enormous & it makes me very proud to be part of such a hard working outfit as Henley is.

The committee does not take for granted the generous support & skills supplied by our local fraternity.
