D Grade vs. North Pines - Round 11 2009 Report

The D's had been decimated at selection with injuries and had many promotions to our more fancied A, B & C grade, but we got a strong side on the park with a good mix of maturity and youth. We had a lot to play for especially being Mark Altree's 100th game for the club as well as bouncing back from our loss to the top side last week.

We dominated from the first bounce and played 4 great quarters for the first time this year. Actually, it was a smashing. A no contest and a non event in the end as there were some great cameo performances by our newer Sharks. Brendon 'bags' Welsh and Gareth 'G' Wales played years beyond their experience.

In the past month our half back line has been unbeatable and has consisted of Horse, Browny and myself with a combined age of 121 years, but this week we had young Huddo with us due to Horse being injured. He too played well on his return and Huddo thanks for dying your hair grey to blend in with Browny & myself.

The standout on the day was the great game played by Brad Dittmar, who was incredible in the ruck. He took on and beat an 8ft caveman from North Pines. Brad was great around the ground taking mark after mark. It was also good to have back Dave Coleman after a long injury layoff. This guy can play and he is a class act in the middle.

With the squad that we have in the D's we will be a force come finals time. This week’s game is up out Houghton, which will have a real country atmosphere if the weather is good, but if the weather turns, it is like playing in a septic tank.

The D grade juggernaught rolls on and needs to keep winning to maintain second spot.

Final Score: Henley 29.12.186 defeated North Pines 0.3.3

Best players: Dittmar, Hardy, Brown, Coleman, Altree, Welsh.
